On Wednesday 13th July 2011 the Axis team working on the challenge of emptying, cleaning and recycling the large amount of paint cans that had accumulated over the years at their head office.
Firstly the team made sure that there was adequate floor protection put down and that relevant safety measures were adhered to.
Every single paint can was opened and any unusable pain was emptied into larger paint cans to be appropriately disposed of. The emptied cans were then put to one side to allow them to dry out.
Any cans that were more than half full of useable paint were cleaned up and put aside ready to be taken to Dulux to go towards the ‘Community RePaint’ program.
“Community RePaint provides a practical solution to this waste stream that is environmentally and socially beneficial. Unwanted surplus paint is diverted from the waste stream and redistributed for re-use by community groups, charities and voluntary groups.” (www.dulux.co.uk July 2011)
Overall the day proved to be a fun challenge and beneficial to everyone involved.
Interesting Facts:
• In total, 44 paint cans of different sizes were donated to be used by the Community RePaint scheme.
• 350 Litres of unusable paint was collected and responsibly disposed of.
• 215paint cans were successfully emptied, cleaned and taken to Crown to be recycled.
