To celebrate World Book Day this year Axis employees donated over 400 books to a range of local causes including primary schools, sheltered schemes and community libraries.
World Book Day is held every year to celebrate and promote the enjoyment of books and reading, with events in schools, libraries and public places.
In Oldbury employees donated 69 books to Blackheath Library and were invited to join story time with local children on the morning of Thursday 1st March. Jodie Shepherd, Customer Service Manager commented, “They were extremely grateful for our donations and most of the books we donated were given to the children as prizes following planned games later on in the afternoon”.
In Vauxhall, employees donated 82 children and adult books which were given to St Mark’s Primary School and Woodstock Court, an L&Q sheltered housing scheme close to the office. Jill Pennell, Bid Co-ordinator has been a reading volunteer at St Mark’s for a number of years now, and arranged for a group of teachers and students to attend a resident coffee morning at Woodstock Court to drop the books off to the elderly.
Maria Harrild, Bid Assistant attended and said, “It was lovely to see the children talking with the residents about the books we had brought them and to see a group of all different ages sit and talk together”.
Other causes supported through World Book Day by Axis include Cancer Research UK, and client sheltered housing schemes in Croydon, Kingston and East London.
