Croydon Community Redecoration

Posted on

In partnership with Croydon Council, Axis recently completed a community project which involved painting 45 garages and 50 cupboard doors located in Holmesdale Road, Croydon.

Axis Apprentice Master, Clive Brighton, supervised the work from start to finish and worked alongside two senior apprentices, Colin Norwood, Rahul Ahmed and one of Axis’ new apprentice plasterers Reece Russell.

Axis also advertised the project as a work placement to provide Croydon residents with the opportunity to gain painting and decorating skills in an external setting. Deborah Green, a Croydon resident, was put forward by Croydon Churches Housing Association and after a successful interview she joined Clive and his team to complete a four week work placement with us.

Due to the condition of the garages and cupboard doors, the volunteers spent a lot of time on the repairs and had to remove all of the old paint before it could be replaced. The garages and cupboard doors were then coated in a grey primer undercoat and finished off with a black gloss.

Despite the cold and wet weather conditions the team remained positive throughout the project and completed all of the work to the scheduled time. Sharon Sheridan, Croydon Council Lettings Manager, said: “I recently visited the garage area of Holmesdale Road and was so impressed with the new garages and sheds. It has completely changed the look of that end of the estate. It is all so clean and tidy now – a massive improvement”.
