21 Tower Block Challenge for Demelza

Posted on

On Friday 2nd February 27 employees ventured to Thamesmead to take on the 21 Tower Block Challenge, raising over £700 for our nominated charity, Demelza Children’s Hospice.

The challenge consisted of climbing up and down all 12 floors of the 21 tower blocks in Thamesmead; with there being 168 stairs per block, there was a total of 7,056 steps to take. Due to the number of participants everyone was split up into three separate teams – beginner, intermediate and advanced, with all teams completing the challenge within a very commendable 3 hours!

Providing a helping hand on the day were the Axis Health & Safety Team who ensured everyone was kept healthy and hydrated, and Rachel Walker and Mary Haisman from Demelza, who not only climbed the first 3 blocks but also set up a gazebo at the end of the event handing out spicy chickpea soup, kindly donated by Together for Mental Wellbeing.

Nayim Rahman, Senior Administrator completed the challenge in 2 hours 5 minutes and commented, “Not only was it a challenge but also a fun filled day of team spirit and socialising amongst colleagues that I’ve never spoken to before. I’ve now signed myself up to take on The Great North Run in September for Demelza”.
