The Axis Foundation has presented a cheque for £32,000 to Demelza Hospice Care for Children to assist them in continuing to care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. The money was raised through an annual charity ball, corporate donations and the fundraising efforts of our people across our offices.
Axis was also the recipient of the award for Outstanding Long Term Supporter at the recent Demelza Awards, which were set up to reward companies for their charitable support towards Demelza.
Historically, over £500,000 has been given to the children’s charity through Axis and the Axis Foundation. At a cheque presentation in January 2016 Dave Berry, Capital Radio host and Vice President of Demelza, accepted a cheque for £75,000 which brought the total amount donated to Demelza to the half-a-million milestone.
On Axis’ history with the charity, Axis Chief Executive John Hayes said: “I think Demelza has a special place in the hearts of everyone at Axis and the Axis Foundation, as we recognise how essential the hospice and its nurses are for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. That is why we’ve supported the charity so tirelessly to raise over £500,000 through corporate donations, staff fundraising and events that have ranged from Skydives and Bake-offs to our annual Charity Ball.
“One of the greatest perks of running a successful business, for me, has been the ability to give back to the communities and individuals who are most in need. This is in Axis’ DNA and everyone gets involved. Seeing the difference we continue to make and how passionate Axis people are about Demelza and the other worthwhile causes we choose to support tells me we’re doing things right.”
Many of the children at the hospice aren’t expected to reach adulthood and so the hospice aims to ease their discomfort and provide support for their families. We adopted Demelza as our charity partner out of appreciation for their essential work and the money we raise helps fund their specialist care nurses’ annual salaries through their ‘Adopt a Nurse’ campaign. Since our partnership began, Demelza has been able to pay 13 specialist nurses’ salaries, thanks to the amount raised by us.
Ryan Campbell, Demelza CEO, said: “We continue to be so touched by the incredible support Axis has shown Demelza over the years. I have been honoured to meet some of the staff there and thank them personally for their tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the children and families we care for. Presenting them with the Outstanding Long-Term Supporter award at the Demelza Business Awards was a chance for us to acknowledge this amazing support, both from the company as a whole, and from the many individual staff members who fund raise on our behalf.”
