Axis is working in partnership with Ecologi to plant trees in the Scottish Highlands, in Dalry. This initiative helps Axis protect and preserve the environment.
Ecologi helps us by planting a tree for every employee who reaches their 1st year at Axis. we are not only helping to capture carbon and create important terrestrial habitats, but we are also helping create shade and reduce temperatures in the highlands to safeguard the species that are dependent on the forests to survive.
Ever since the first foresters entered the Scottish Highlands over 6000 years ago, Scottish trees and woodlands have been harvested to make room for agriculture, residential homes and infrastructure. By the early 20th century, the forest cover was reduced to an astonishing 5%. However, as a result of afforestation, in the last 100 years, forest and woodland cover in Scotland has increased from 5% to approximately 18.5% and hopefully will continue to rise with the help of Axis’ tree planting initiative. A tree can capture 1 tonne of CO2 in its lifetime, which is equivalent to the emissions of one passenger on a return flight from Paris to New York.
