The Axis Foundation Charity Golf Day

Posted on

The Axis Foundation recently hosted our inaugural charity golf day, the Alan Curbishley Classic event at the London Club, which raised over £18,000 for Sparks Medical Research Charity and Demelza Hospice Care for Children. The event featured famous faces such as Sir Trevor Brooking and Roy Hodgson and those who attended were able to play with a celebrity captain and test their skills, all whilst raising money for both charities.

Both of our charity partners, Sparks and Demelza, are dedicated to improving the lives of the children who need it the most. Sparks and Demelza have a special place in our hearts and we believe that it is important that we support them in their mission of improving the lives of children with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses.

After the golfers had descended on the course and shown off their putting skills, there were a number of fundraising activities throughout the day, including a charity auction and a game of ‘Heads and Tails’ all of which raised £6,840.

The players and celebrities were also joined by representatives of the two charities who explained the work they undertake and spoke about some of the children that have been through their care. The money received by Demelza will contribute towards their ‘Adopt a Nurse’ programme which provides seriously ill children with 24-hour specialist care which is essential to help these children and their families receive compassion, care and comfort. Sparks believe that every child matters and it is because of this that the charity raises money to fund ground-breaking research into illnesses and conditions that affect children.

A ceremony followed where both Demelza and Sparks received cheques from 2016/17 fundraising for over £53,000 each to help them continue their valuable work in helping to improve the lives of seriously ill children.
