The St. John’s Hospice, which provides its palliative care to patients with life limiting illnesses across seven London Boroughs, has received a donation of £4500 to purchase three specialist medical care chairs that will bring added comfort to over 300 patients per year.
Our £4,500 will provide equipment designed to help patients sit and stand independently, as well as aiding nurses with bed transfers and hoisting. The chairs are multi-adjustable and fully supported to provide postural management for those who are unable to maintain their body posture.
This type of chair is particularly important for patients suffering acute pain or who have severe mobility problems often associated with advanced neurological conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
Steve Barnes, the Hospice Director, said: ‘I was delighted to hear the wonderful news of support from the Axis Foundation. I cannot thank the Foundation enough for this generous grant of £4,470 for new specialist patient chairs for use on our Inpatient Unit. Upgrading patient seating will allow us to meet the increasingly specialised needs of patients and maintain our high standards of care.’
